I AM A FROG


    line

    My water filled eyes flick open,
    The buzzing of the fly hovering over me,
    In a flash I open my mouth,
    and my sticky tongue snags it from the air,
    Pulling it into my mouth,
    A tasty treat.

    I leap off my lilly-pad,
    And swim through the mucky water,
    To the bank I glide,
    My floppy feet sinking into the mud,
    As the bushes rustle ahead,
    The eggs along my back,
    Not but a small reminder,
    That the snake would kill not just me,
    But the future of this swamp.
