John the Baptist preached in the desert. The people of Jerusalem were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
John wore clothing made of camel's hair with a leather belt around his waist. He ate locusts and wild honey. This was his message: "After me will come one more powerful than I. I baptize you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit."
Jesus came to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. As soon as Jesus was baptized, He came up out of the water. At that moment, heaven opened and the Holy Spirit came down on Him like a dove. A voice from heaven said, "You are my Son, whom I love; I am well pleased with you."
