HELPING HANDS

As our family was driving to the park for an afternoon walk
we saw an old man standing on the street corner.
He held a sign that said "Please Help - God Bless You."
Dad handed him some money, and the man said "Thank You."
Then the old man said that he still remembers what his
    4th grade teacher told him.
When you wash your hands - one hand helps the other.

That is how our lives should touch each other,
We should reach out and help a brother in need.

We were all blessed by the short conversation
that we had with this sweet old man.
Jonathan said it reminded him of the song
"What if She's an Angel" sung by Brad Paisley.

    What If She's An Angel

    There's a man on a corner
With a sign sayin' "Will work for food"
You know the man--you see him ev'ry mornin'
The one you never give your money to

You can sit there with your window rolled up
Wonderin' when the light's gonna turn green
Never knowin' what a couple more bucks
    In his pocket might mean

What if he's an angel sent here from Heaven
And he's makin' certain that you're doin' your best
To take the time to help one another?
Brother, are you gonna pass that test?
You can go on with your day-to-day
Tryin' to forget what you saw in his face
    Knowin' deep down
You could've been his saving grace
    What if he's an angel?

    There's a man and a woman
Livin' right above you in apartment G
There's a lot of noise comin' through the ceilin'
And it don't sound like harmony

You can sit there with your TV turned up
While the words and his anger fly
But, come tomorrow, when you see her with her shades on
Can you look her in the eye?

What if she's an angel sent here from Heaven
And she's makin' certain that you're doin' your best
To take the time to help one another?
Brother, are you gonna pass that test?
You can go on with your day-to-day
Tryin' to forget what you saw in her face
    Knowin' deep down
You could've been her saving grace
    What if she's an angel?

A little girl in Daddy's lap
Hidin' her disease with a baseball cap
You can change the channel--most people do
But what if you were in her daddy's shoes?

Maybe she's an angel sent here from Heaven
And she's makin' certain that you're doin' your best
To take the time to help one another
Brother, are you gonna pass that test?
You can go on with your day-to-day
Tryin' to forget what you saw in her face
    Knowin' deep down
You could've been her saving grace
    What if she's an angel?

"Ain't Life Funny'

I learned to laugh inside my tears,
I learned to be human in my most wretched years...

I learned to feel when I wasn't being touched,
I learned to give when I didn't have much.

I learned to be warm when I was cold...
Living real humbly, I learned to be bold.

I learned to live when I thought it better to die...
I learned to laugh when all I could do was cry.

I learned from below what it's like up above...
While I was hated, I learned how to love.

It was on the move that I learned how to rest,
While at my worst, I learned my best.

I learned about God, when it seemed I was damned...
It is when I was lost that I learned that I am.

I learned to be rich when I had no money...
These things seem so serious, but hey...
ain't life funny!?
