SPIRIT OF JOY

"Yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will JOY in the God of my salvation."
Habakkuk 3:18

One day Daddy came home from work very grumpy. His day at work had been very long and hard. He was tired and gloomy.

His little 2 year old daughter, Jamie came running to his arms as soon as he came inside the house. "I Love you Daddy," she said with glee. Daddy smiled for a moment forgetting his troubles. He picked her up and gave her a big hug. "I Love you too Jamie". He put her down and off Jamie ran to play with her big brother Jonathan.

Dad sat down on the sofa and tried to read the newspaper, but the troubles of the day kept coming to his mind. He could not read. He just sat there with a troubled look on his face. Mom was busy cooking dinner and did not notice that her husband was troubled. Little Jamie looked over at her Daddy. She saw that his eyes were full of sadness. I know what will make my Daddy happy she thought. She ran to the sofa and started singing. "I'm Daddy's Joy, Joy Girl, I'm Daddy's Joy, Joy Girl" I'm Daddy's Joy, Joy Girl," she sang over and over while she joyfully danced across the room. Then she added, "Because the Bible tells me so!". As Daddy watched his delightful daughter dance and sing across the room his problems seemed to disappear, and a smile beamed across his face. Jamie gave her Daddy a big hug and ran back off to play.

Dad's heart was happier now, but then he began thinking about his problems and felt far away from God.

"It's dinner time" Mom called from the kitchen. Everyone gathered around the table. Dad usually said the Prayer before dinner but tonight he did not feel like praying. His heart was sad and he did not feel close to God. His 4 year old son, Jonathan reached for his Daddy's hand so they could hold hands while praying. Dad looked into his son's sparkling blue eyes. Jonathan was smiling and looking up at his Dad. "Aren't you going to pray, Daddy?" He asked. "Yes son," he simply said with a faint smile. Dad bowed his head while the family held hands around the table. "Dear God," he started, "Thank you for wonderful children who continue to bring us back to your love with their spirit of Joy. Thank you for this food and for our family. In Jesus name I Pray, Amen".

From that day on Dad called his daughter, Jamie, his JOY JOY GIRL.

What is JOY?

To rejoice, be glad, be joyful. It contains the suggestion of "dancing for joy" or "leaping for joy". The verb originally meant to spin around with intense motion.
