Christopher Columbus

I grew up knowing that we celebrate Columbus Day because it is the day Christopher Columbus first landed in the Americas on October 12, 1492. The holiday was first introduced in 1792 by Italian-Americans in New York City who wanted to mark the 300th anniversary of Columbus’ arrival, but was not officially recognized until 1905. Columbus Day is now a federal holiday in the USA, meaning that banks, schools and government offices are closed in many states.  But now in 2017 many cities have decided to change the holiday to Indigenous People’s Day..

At first I was really upset because once again the left is wanting to rewrite history for their non-Christian agenda. Then I realized that I am more upset that our generation has forgotten the history of the religious holidays that God told us to remember. During the autumn season God instructs us to remember His New Year with Rosh A shannah, Days of Awh, Trumpets, Yom Kippur and this week is the Feast of Tabernacles. This eight-day Festival represents the prophesied fulfillment of the coming Kingdom of God, which Jesus taught about extensively during His earthly ministry.

I recently read that Christopher Columbus arrived to America on a Friday afternoon during the Feast of Tabernacles. And I read in Jonathan Cahn's new book "The Book of Mysteries" page 281 that "Two momentous events of world history took place in the same year, the same land, the same week, the same harbors... happening one day apart."

Before America was discovered Spain had been a great refuge for the Jewish people but in 1492 the Spanish monarchs told the Jewish people that on August 2nd they must flee their land or they would be killed. On the Ninth of Av the harbors were filled with ships carrying Jews fleeing for their lives.

However on the same harbor Christopher Columbus sailed the next day on the 10th of Av to discover what became the country that is the biggest supporter of the Jewish people. If you know history it will help you understand how God uses people of faith to accomplish His plan and our future.
