1 Corinthians 6:20 and 7:23
Psalm 103:1-4 and Psalm 119:11
Today is the thirty-first day of the Lent season. Today we read in the Gospel of John, Chapter 8 about a woman who was about to be stoned to death because of her sin of adultery. Adultery is when you have sex with someone other than the person you are married to. When Jesus approaches the scene the Jewish leaders reminded Jesus that the law from Moses said to stone her. Then they asked him, "What do You say?" Jesus replied; “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Everyone left because no one was without sin. Jesus told the woman that he forgives her, and to sin no more.
Almighty and everlasting God, Thank you for forgiving our sins. Help us to learn more about You and Your Son from Your Word, the Bible. And help us to learn to say NO to sins and YES to obeying your commandments and spending more time with you. Thank you for being the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
11 "I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you."
1 Corinthians 7:23
23 'You were bought at a price;
do not become slaves of human beings."
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8 Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9 At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10 Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
11 “No one, sir,” she said.
“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”
