Today is the twenty-eighth day of the Lent season. The lesson today is found in the Gospels Matthew 17:1-13; Mark 9: 2-13; and Luke 9:28-36. Can you imagine how Jesus' disciples felt after they climbed up the mountain with Jesus, and all of a sudden Jesus was transformed right before their eyes. Jesus' face started shining like the sun, and His clothes became white as the light. Then, as if that was not enough to make them amazed, Moses and Elijah appeared before them to talk to Jesus. Moses and Elijah had died many years before Jesus was even born. Suddenly as they were talking a bright cloud surrounded them, and a voice from the cloud said "This is My Son, whom I love; with Him I am well pleased. Listen to Him!"
Note: Moses appeared as the representative of the old covenant and the promise of salvation, which was soon to be fulfilled in the death of Jesus. Elijah appears as the appointed restorer of all things. (Malachi 4:5-6 ). In Luke 9:30 we are told that the three were talking about Jesus' death.
Almighty and everlasting God, Thank you for this time of year that we remember what Jesus did for us so that we can become Your children, and live with you forever in heaven. Help us to learn more about You and Your Son from Your Word, the Bible. And help us to learn to say NO to sins and YES to obeying your commandments and spending more time with you. Thank you for being the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
